Associtrus requests intervention from Brazilians Minister of Agriculture on Consecitrus
15 de dezembro | 2005
December, 15 – This week, Associtrus president Flávio Viegas issued an appeal to the Ministry of Agriculture and to the Citrus Sectorial Chamber requesting intervention on the making of the Consecitrus, a standard formula for all the contracts between citrus growers and citrus processing industries.
According to Viegas, in september Abecitrus president Ademerval Garcia ceased negotiations pleading that he was expecting the governments permission to continue because ten years ago the federal government and the Economy Deffense Council prohibited the contract standardizing in the citrus industry to avoid a cartel among the citrus processing industries.
Since the Consecitrus doesn’t mean to prejudice anyone, only to improve the citrus growers income, we are trying to make the Economy Deffense Council reconsider this prohibition and authorize the negotiations says Viegas.
The Economy Deffense Council has informally manifested that they are willing to allow the negotiations to proceed. According to Viegas, the solution will be to ask for intevention from the Minister of Agriculture, Roberto Rodrigues. Since the government announced that it may intervene on the negotiations of a standard contract of sugar-cane, then why not invervene on the citrus contract as well?says Viegas, referring to the Consecana, the current standard contract of the sugar-cane industry similar to what Consecitrus intends to be that is being reformulated.
One of the aspects discussed on the Consecitrus is that the orange should be priced based on its sugar contents. Currently, the price is based on the box weight.
